Lewis Hamilton says he’s in a very positive mood as he prepares for this weekends Brazilian Grand Prix.
The McLaren driver has been through a difficult season which has seen him involved in numerous on track clashes, mostly with Felipe Massa, but also with his teammate and Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi.
The 26-year-old also split from his girlfriend of almost four years, Nicole Scherzinger, to compound the disappointing year.
However, Hamilton is taking only positives from a season which he described as ‘much needed’.
“I was talking to a friend just recently who is very wise and I said it’s been a difficult year, and he said it’s not been a difficult year, it’s been a year of growth, which I thought was one of the most positive things I’ve heard,” said Hamilton.
“In future I will look back on this year and smile and say: ‘I needed that,'” he added. “I’ve grown up a lot this year and I want to take it into next year.
“I’m coming off a positive two weeks. The last few days have been really positive. I’m excited to be here and be starting afresh. There’s no reason why this can’t be the start of something.”
The Brit spent a few days in Los Angeles with his ex-girlfriend, who he said he still had strong feelings for.
“What you didn’t see is that we had a really good week. a couple of really nice lunches together.
“It’s very early days and we still have very strong feelings for one another and I still love her very much. So who knows? Maybe we will be together in the future.”
