Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo says he would like to see Kimi Raikkonen return to the Formula 1 grid, as speculation mounts he could be joining Williams for 2012.
The former-Ferrari driver recently visited the Williams factory, but the team denied it had links to a possible race seat, that was until shareholder Toto Wolff confirmed ‘serious negotiations’ were underway.
Montezemolo, asked about Raikkonen’s possible return, replied: “Kimi, I like him. He was very good, even though I was never able to communicate with him properly.
“Like Kimi, there are drivers who have that flame inside, like Schumacher, like Berger who drove here with us at Mugello in the 412T2, and Alesi who wants to race in the Formula Indy.”
However, the Italian isn’t so happy about another former-F1 employee returning to the grid next season.
Mike Coughlan will make his return with Williams following his dismissal from McLaren in 2007 over the ‘spygate scandal’ which rocked the sport.
“It is scandalous. Formula 1 never fails to ridicule itself,” the 64-year-old told La Stampa.
