Pastor Maldonado has been hit with a ten-place grid penalty for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The Williams driver will use his ninth engine of the 2011 season, therefore breaching the eight-engines per season regulation.
Mark Gillan, chief operations engineer at the Grove outfit, confirmed the penalty, a result of damage caused by his gearbox failure during the Indian GP last weekend.
“We need to ensure we have a trouble free weekend and then it is possible that we can make it into Q3, although as Pastor will use a ninth engine in Abu Dhabi, due to damage incurred following the gearbox failure in India, he will therefore incur a subsequent 10-place grid penalty,” confirmed Gillan.
Rubens Barrichello will use his eighth new Cosworth engine, which will also be used in Brazil.
