Bernie Ecclestone has hinted that the Korean Grand Prix could well be under threat of being dropped from the calendar in the near future amid talks to reduce its hosting fee.
The organisers of the event are keen to reduce the fee paid to Ecclestone in a bid to make the event more profitable.
The 80-year-old is rumoured to have turned down talks and hinted that the event could be dropped from the calendar if the organisers can’t afford to host the event.
“There are lots of things in life you can’t afford, and you don’t have to have them,” he said in India.
“It took us long enough to negotiate with them in the first place. It was strange. They didn’t really get behind it. That was a disappointment because it was a big enough effort to get it on in the first place.”
When asked if the event would be dropped if the Koreans couldn’t afford to keep it going, he simply replied: “Yeah.”
