A reserved Lewis Hamilton took a fantastic pole position to end Red Bull’s recent reign on Saturday, but the McLaren driver expressed little pleasure in beating his rivals.
Hamilton remained silent on his team radio when informed of his position for tomorrow’s race start and was similarly constrained in the post-qualifying press conference, but insisted he was ‘happy’.
“I am happy,” he said. “I am very happy. I am happy to be here and very proud of what the team have been able to achieve over the course of the last few races and for Jenson to have won the last race.”
Hamilton isn’t getting carried away and says tomorrow is when it counts: “To be on front two rows again and us the only ones able to compete with Red Bull. I am very happy. But tomorrow is what counts.”
