Lewis Hamilton has admitted he was the only person to blame for his coming together with Kamui Kobayashi during the Belgian GP.
On lap 13 of 44, the McLaren driver drew alongside Kobayashi using DRS and was clearly past, but the Sauber driver managed to come back at Hamilton and the two approached Les Combes almost side-by-side.
Hamilton failed to leave the Japanese driver enough room and they ultimately made contact which ended the Brits race.
“After watching the replay, I realise it was my fault today 100 per cent,” Hamilton wrote on Twitter. “I didn’t give Kobayashi enough room though, I thought I was past.
“Apologies to Kamui and to my team. The team deserves better from me.”
Kobayashi described the incident from his point of view, agreeing he had nowhere to go.
“I knew that I could not fight because he was much quicker than me,” said Kobayashi. “He overtook me and was using the DRS rear wing, which I didn’t. I was just using KERS, but we were running very low downforce and that’s why I caught him up again.
“At the end of the straight, I was on the left and he was in the middle of the track. He came back and we had contact.”
