The French Grand Prix will return to the Formula 1 calendar from 2013 in a new deal which has been struck with the Belgium GP, which will see the two alternate annually.
Reports in the French media claim the Circuit Paul Ricard on the outskirts of Marseille, will host the country’s return to the top-tier of motorsport.
The track is owned by F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone.
A task force was recently set-up by French prime minister Francois Fillon to investigate the viability of hosting the sport once again.
“It is true that I have put in place a team [to] attempt to create a proposition that will allow the organisation of a new grand prix in France,” Fillon said back in June of this year.
That task force is headed by Gilles Dufaigneux, who is reportedly at the Belgium GP this weekend and will meet with Ecclestone, currently at his daughters wedding in Italy, but will fly to Belgium today.
Such a deal would mean the much loved Spa-Francorchamps would only feature on the calendar once every two years.
France last hosted F1 in 2008 at the Magny-Cours circuit, a race win by Ferrari’s Felipe Massa.
