Mark Webber topped the third practice session following on from his quickest time in session two. His best, a 2:08.988, was over 18 seconds slower than Friday’s best.

Rain was a major player in the slow times and limited running, with 16 laps the most completed by a single driver. Jaime Alguersuari was that man and he slotted into third, behind Lewis Hamilton.

Jenson Button was fourth quickest, ahead of Sebastian Vettel and the second Toro Rosso of Sebastien Buemi.

Neither Ferrari managed to put in a quick lap, which saw the two finish 23rd and 24th – Fernando Alonso the only driver not to complete a timed lap.

With the weather improving toward the end of the session, the chances of a dry qualifying session look more likely, but most in the paddock expect changeable conditions.
