Jenson Button is already looking forward to the next race in Spa-Francorchamps, even if we have to endure a four-week enforced break.
The McLaren driver took a thrilling win to celebrate his 200th race start, in a car which looks to be challenging the Red Bull’s domination, having won four times this season, just two less than the Milton Keynes outfit.
Button says the win will put the team on a high until they return to Belgium on the 28th August.
“For some reason I like these conditions, don’t ask my why,” he said after the race. “It worked out again. A great call from the team to put me on the prime tyre when they did. A great call from all of us. All round an amazing weekend.
“I want to say a big thank you to the team. Everyone has worked so hard to produce the car we have now. I think we’re going into the break on a nice high. Every day we’re on holiday we’ll be thinking about Spa,” he admitted.
The race was a closely fought battle between him and his teammate up until the latter parts of the race which, one again, saw the two battling for the lead.
“I knew I was in good shape, the car was working well for me, I thought it was a matter of time in the dry conditions to get the jump on Lewis because at the end of the stints he was struggling.
“It turned out a little bit different with the rain coming down… I had a lot of fun all the same. It’s always fun racing with Lewis. Great to come away with a victory this weekend.”
