Jenson Button has no plans to retire any time soon, after admitting he wouldn’t know what to do with himself if he was to retire from Formula 1.
The 31-year-old has been racing in F1 since 2000, making this his twelfth season, but he says he has another four years in him at the very minimum.
“I was thinking if I did four more years in Formula 1, I would be 35 and I would retire from racing. I mean, what the hell am I going to do at 35?”
Button currently races with McLaren alongside Lewis Hamilton, a pairing which has seen the outfit finish second in the Constructors’ standings last year, a position they also hold this season.
The Woking outfit has also won three races so far, two more than Ferrari but three less than Red Bull. However Button says he wishes to remain with the team next year, despite yet agreeing to a new deal.
“I said at the beginning of the year in China, I don’t think those were my exact words, but for me being at a team that has won many titles and can win the championship is exactly what I want. After winning the championship I want to be with a team that always gives me the opportunity to fight for it and this [McLaren] is one of them.”
