The FIA has confirmed that the drag-reduction system will again be a single zone for the German Grand Prix, and will be situated along the back-straight.

The detection zone, where a following driver must be within a second of the car ahead, will be located just before turn 10, whilst the activation zone will be just after the following turn, 11.

The Nurburgring will have a usage zone of average length, but the key factor will that the braking zone which leads into the tight chicane (turns 13/14), possibly offering up the opportunity for some interesting overtakes, according to FIA technical delegate Charlie Whiting.

“The Nürburgring is always a challenge, usually because of the weather, which is often threatening, whatever time year a grand prix is held here,” he said.

“The DRS zone has been set for the straight before the tight chicane, so we should see some good overtaking,” he also hopes turn one will see some action too. “There’s always good action at the first corner: it’s nice and wide, with a variety of lines, which gives drivers an opportunity to pass.”
