Robert Kubica will undergo private Formula 1 tests in the Autumn to evaluate his ability, and to give the Polish driver a chance to re-familiarise himself with an F1 car.
Kubica is steadily recovering from a near-fatal rally accident which occurred in February of this year. His rehabilitation is coming along better than expected, according to his doctors.
Renault team principal Eric Boullier confirmed the team would hold private tests for the 26-year-old toward the end of the season in order to assess when he can return to competitive racing.
“We often talk to Robert,” Boullier told F1News.ru. “He feels fine, but the restoration of damaged nerves, always takes time.
“I think by the end of the summer he will begin the final phase of rehabilitation. Then it will become clear when we can expect his return.”
He added: “We have planned them [private tests] in the fall [autumn].”
The tests will most likely take place in a 2009-spec Renault car as private running of any current cars is prohibited, unless it comes under the straight-line aero test restrictions or promotional running which is heavily speed restricted.
