Michael Schumacher says his involvement in several crashes and collisions this season is the result of the German taking more risks to get to the front.
He currently lies tenth in the championship standings, 15 points behind teammate Nico Rosberg, who he has struggled to match in qualifying and the race – a criticism which plagued him in 2010.
In an attempt to progress through the field, Schumacher says he is taking more risks, which proves his determination to succeed remains.
“Each of the collisions this season had a different reason,” the Mercedes driver told Auto und Motor Sport. “I’m no different to before and certainly not unfocused.
“Believe me, I have found some unfortunate situations unnecessary and would gladly have avoided them.
“I am just fighting as hard as I can to get to the front, and for that I have to take some risks.”
His most recent collision came a week ago in Silverstone when he oversteered into the rear of Kamui Kobayashi which resulted in a ten second stop-go penalty.
