With the obvious anger caused by the late decision to withdraw a 50% off-throttle concession for Renault engines, the FIA has called an urgent crisis meeting to avoid further controversy.
A letter sent to all the teams, seen by The F1 Times, calls for one technical representative from every team and urged for team principals to also be present.
“In order to discuss the subject of engine mapping there will be an extraordinary meeting of the TWG [Technical Working Group] at 11.30 today in the meeting room adjacent to the F1 stewards office,” read the letter.
“It is important that each team sends a senior technical representative and we suggest that each team principal should also attend.”
The meeting was prompted by Red Bull team principal Christian Horner and chief designer Adrian Newey after they questioned the late change which could have a detrimental effect on their reliability and pace.
