Jenson Button is hoping for a wet race as he believes it will give McLaren their best chance of victory on Sunday afternoon.
The McLaren driver won a sensational Canadian GP in mid-June which was heavily rain affected, allowing the 2009-champion to battle from last to first by the time the checkered flag fell.
However in contrast, a warm, dry race in Valencia a fortnight ago left the McLaren’s well off the pace and, whilst it might not be quite as warm at Silverstone, the rain looks to be holding off for Saturday and Sunday.
It may come as a disappointment to Button who believes the changeable conditions suit the MP4-26.
“Sorry guys but if it rains it is not so good for fans sitting out in it, but for us in terms of our pace in the wet and in terms of a result, wet weather could be good,” Button told the Daily Express.
“It definitely does mix it up a bit. Our car seems to work well in the wet. We’ve proved that on a couple of occasions and if you look at the pace in Valencia you would say we were nowhere near close enough to the Red Bulls.
“Whether that is going to be the same when we arrive at Silverstone, as we do have changes to the car and there is a regulation change, I don’t know. I hope not. I hope we have made some good improvements. It is going to be tough to beat the Red Bulls. We always knew that but we won’t know how difficult it is until Friday and the practice sessions.”
