Ferrari’s Luca di Montezemolo says he doesn’t want to hear negative language about Ferrari’s competitiveness this season, and has urged the team to continue to push to develop the F150º Italia in to a race winning car.
The outfit struggled at the beginning of the season but has steadily improved and now have, arguably, the second quickest car on the grid behind the ever-dominant Red Bull.
Montezemolo put the improvement down to a different development approach and further urged the team to improve.
“In the past few days, I have gone over the situation with Stefano Domenicali and his engineers,” said Montezemolo. “We are working flat out and one can see improvements compared to the early races and this is partly down to adopting a different approach to the development of the car.”
He admitted that the current championship situation was far from ideal, but refused to be drawn into talk that their challenge is over.
“We know the situation in both championships is very difficult, but I don’t want to hear any talk of giving in: we must try to progress continuously and to fight for the win at every race, which is a must for Ferrari,” he added.
With next weekend’s British Grand Prix marking the mid-point of the 2011 season, the 63-year-old admitted attention is beginning to focus on the 2012 car.
“Obviously, we have also started talking about the 2012 car, which is normal for this time of year,” adding: “I have faith in what Domenicali and his team are doing and I am convinced we will see the results of their work.”
