Bernie Ecclestone has leaped to defend Lewis Hamilton after the likes of Niki Lauda and Emmerson Fittipaldi slammed the Brit as a “danger to himself and others.”
Furthermore, the F1 supremo has likened the 2008 world champion’s ambitious driving style to that of the late Ayrton Senna, a legend within the sport.
Speaking to The Independant, Ecclestone said, “What we want is people racing, and all the people who watch it want that.”
“I was very, very good friends with Senna,” he continued, “and he was a racer too. Maybe Lewis has made one or two questionable moves, but so have all of the others, but nobody even looks at what goes on further down the field.”
The support will be welcomed by the McLaren driver as recent criticism has even called for him to face further punishment by the sport’s governing body.
