Mark Webber will start the Canadian Grand Prix from fourth position on the grid, but the Australian says he’s happy with the result following a troubling Saturday.
He failed to complete a single lap during third practice after his KERS failed before the session began. Whilst he and the team believed it was fixed for qualifying, it failed once again, leaving him without the vital power boost his team-mate enjoyed on his way to pole.
“It was a good afternoon and I was happy with how we recovered,” said Webber. “I couldn’t have got much more out of the car for qualifying today; I didn’t have KERS, which affected my performance.
“The guys did everything they could to get it ready after the problem we had this morning and we were confident that it was fixed, but on the formation lap it lapsed again. We tried to recover it for Q3, but it wasn’t possible.”
The 34-year-old expects an interesting race with many predicting some showers at some point, combined with a track where overtaking is a common feature, he is confident of making up some places.
“A front row would have been nice to have here, but fourth is towards the front and the second row is good considering our day. It’s a long Grand Prix tomorrow and there’s likely to be a bit of weather coming in, so it should be an interesting race.”
