Bernie Ecclestone says the Bahrain Grand Prix won’t happen in 2011, despite the WMSC reinstating it on the calendar.
A letter to the FIA from the teams via their collective association, FOTA (minus Hispania), have called for the race to be called off on logistical grounds. According to the regulations, changes cannot be made to the calendar unless all 12 teams agree.
Ecclestone admitted the race is ‘not on’ now, but he hoped there would be peace in the future to guarantee a return in 2012.
“Hopefully there’ll be peace and quiet and we can return in the future, but of course it’s not on,” Ecclestone told the BBC.
“The schedule cannot be rescheduled without the agreement of the participants – they’re the facts.”
It’s now thought the FIA will cancel the event formally and reinstate the Indian GP on October 30th.
