Carlos Slim Domit, son of the world’s richest man, says Sauber and Sergio Perez can count on his financial support for the long-term future.
Both Sauber and the young Mexican driver are backed by Telmex financially and Slim was in Spain last weekend to check up on their investment.
“I am very proud, as is the whole country,” he told German newspaper, Blick.
On the subject of how long their generous hand would be available, Slim replied: “A long, long time. We have a long term goal. We want to win the world championship one day.
“We have the time and with Perez a racing driver with great potential. He is only just beginning his great career.
“We will support Sauber with the necessary resources for as much development as possible. We are very happy with this team. We are like a family.”
Perez scored his first points in Spain following a double points finish for the Swiss outfit.
