Bernie Ecclestone has claimed credit for the transformed Silverstone circuit. The 80-year-old says his years of complaining to the BRDC about the facilities has paid off.
“Thank God I persisted because now we’ll have a super circuit,” he told the Telegraph.
On Tuesday the new multi-million pound pit and paddock complex dubbed the ‘Wing’ will open its doors to the public. This new structure follows upgrades to the circuit in 2010, particularly the Arena section.
Ecclestone says he can now be proud of the British GP and he wouldn’t be wary of it setting an example for future tracks.
“When people say ‘We are building a circuit; can we come and have a look at Silverstone?’ I can happily say, ‘Yes, build it like this’. Whereas before it was the last place I would encourage them to see.”
Check out the below video which gives a brief guided tour of the new complex, which includes a new start/finish position.
