Daniel Ricciardo says he is ready to take the jump into Formula One.
The Australian has taken part in Friday practice at every race this season with the Toro Rosso team and his pace has impressed much of the paddock.
On Sunday, he took his first win of the 2011 season in the World Series by Renault, despite crossing the line second after Jean-Eric Vergne was handed a time-penalty.
After the race, he was asked if he was ready for the pinnacle of motorsport, he replied: “This is a question I am often asked and the answer is yes, I’m ready,” he told Motorsport Total.
“I would be more than happy if I had to step in because a driver had food poisoning or whatever.”
He is highly touted as a replacement for either Jaime Alguersuari or Sebastien Buemi for next season at the Faenza based outfit, something he is keen on achieveing.
“I will fight hard [in the WSR], learn more, eliminate some errors from the previous year and concentrate then on the Formula One and get ready for 2012, because I want to sit in a race seat next year.”
