Plans are underway to bring a second race to India, despite the country having only gained the right to host a race for the first time this year.
Swapnil Naik, tourism director of Goa, India’s smallest state, confirmed that the local government were looking into building a circuit by the sea which would be modelled around Monte Carlo’s famous street circuit.
“Yes, we have been approached for a F1 circuit in Goa. We have decided to go ahead with it,” Naik told the Times of India.
When probed further on a possible location, he confirmed the plan was in the early stages and they were still looking for a suitable venue.
“We are looking first at our own properties which were acquired by the state government for tourism purposes. We have quite a few by the coast,” he added. “So, it could be anyone of them.”
The move is part of a government task force to improve tourism in the region with other developments to include golf courses, entertainment parks and boxing arenas.
India’s inaugural race will take place at the Buddh International Circuit in Noida on the outskirts of Delhi on October 30th.
