It was a miserable debut for the Williams FW33 after it suffered from fatal transmission issues on both Rubens Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado’s cars.
The duo retired on lap 49 and ten respectively, though showed good pace in the opening stages of the race.
Barrichello suffered a raft of issues, firstly a slow leak on the front followed by a front-wing failure then the race ending transmission problems.
“It was a tough race for us,” he said. “I was pushed out a little bit at the start, but then I had a good rhythm going and was doing quite a lot of overtaking until the incident with Rosberg.”
The Brazilian wasn’t completely downbeat though, having experienced some competitive pace throughout the more positive stages of the grand prix.
“The ‘33’ was competitive today, which is positive going into the next race.”
