Mark Webber was left disappointed with his pace during qualifying, despite securing third on the grid for Sunday’s Australian Grand Prix ahead of his home crowd.
The Australian couldn’t match his team-mate, Sebastian Vettel, who was over eight tenths faster in Q3.
“I couldn’t do the times today,” said Webber following qualifying. “I was disappointed with my performance.”
He says he is mystified as to what could have caused such a gap between himself and the current world champion.
“Sebastian [Vettel] put in a good lap and I’m disappointed to get bumped off the front row. [I’m] Mystified by the gap to Sebastian, and I’ll have to look at where I can improve.
“The guys have done a great job – not the best job from me but the bar has been raised.”
