Lewis Hamilton is ‘thrilled’ that he managed to secure a front-row grid slot for tomorrow’s Australian Grand prix alongside pole position sitter Sebastian Vettel.
The McLaren driver thanked the team for their hard work after the MP4-26 looked off the pace during pre-season testing, though a major update for the season opener has seen them gain upwards of a second.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be up here today,” he said after qualifying.
“The guys back at the factory have done an unbelievable job, really a massive step this weekend. The car is feeling fantastic, of course we still have a lot of work to do but I think we have really got ourselves on the right track and a great foundation for us to build upon.
“I know the guys back at the factory will keep going but a big thank you to everyone at home, keep pushing,” he added.
Whilst second on the grid is promising, Vettel managed a lap which was eight tenths faster without using KERS, though Hamilton too didn’t use KERS due to a system failure.
