Hamilton won’t tolerate fruitless year – Horner

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has sent a warning to rival outfit McLaren, suggesting Lewis Hamilton won’t tolerate another fruitless year with the team.

Horner also heaped praise on the 26-year-old, naming him as ‘one of the best.’ He made the comments whilst announcing that Red Bull had secured the services of Sebastian Vettel until 2014.

“Lewis is a great driver. He’s a former world champion,” said Horner. “He’s one of the best that there is.

“He’s not going to be happy if he has another barren year [with McLaren].”

Whilst the comments might seem like ammunition to secure the Briton’s services alongside Vettel, replacing Mark Webber who’s only contracted to the Milton Keynes outfit until the end of the year, Horner made it clear that he’s happy with the current line-up.

“That’s not to say that we’re looking for [Hamilton] to come to our team. We’re very happy with the two drivers that we currently have.”

But, when pressed further on a Ham-Vet partnership, he added: “You would certainly envisage it being quite a busy partnership, but you can never rule it out. From my perspective you always want to have the best two drivers.”
