Hispania team principal Colin Kolles is confident that the teams new car, which was debuted in Barcelona on Friday, will be ‘significantly’ quicker than last years.
The F111 was shown-off in the Catalunya pit-lane during lunch on day four of the final pre-season test, however a lack of parts meant they couldn’t hit the track and will now debut on Saturday.
Despite the opportunity of just one day’s testing, Romanian Kolles believes the package could easily see them progress up through the field.
“I think our car is quicker than last year’s car. Significantly,” he told Autosport.
“We have a Williams rear end, a Cosworth engine – this is a package you can get into the top 10 in qualifying, and finish sixth in the championship. There is nothing wrong there.”
The team will also benefit from the addition of an experienced driver in the form of Vitantonio Liuzzi, according to Kolles.
“We have an improved aero package so everything looks more promising. We have drivers with much more experience so this should be better. On paper it looks better, I think.
“We know we don’t have the quickest car. That’s very clear. Our strategy is to be reliable, to finish races, to have experienced drivers to take advantage of certain situations,” he added.
