Mark Webber says he hopes that Red Bull aren’t far off Ferrari’s pace, suggesting the Italian team could be the quickest car at the first race in Australia.
Despite Red Bull being clear favourites to lead in Melbourne, Webber believes that Ferrari may have the upper-hand come the season opener, from what he’s observed in testing.
“I think Ferrari are strong,” he told AFP. “I think we’re going OK and the rest is hard to say. I haven’t even looked at the times today, they’re not even of interest, you just focus on your own thing.
“I think we’re going OK but it’s impossible for me to know what the red guys [Ferrari] are doing. Race runs they are going OK, they look quick.
“Hopefully we’re not too far away from Ferrari to start with and we go from there.”
Webber managed to set the third quickest lap during day three in Barcelona, just under four tenths behind Felipe Massa in Ferrari’s 150º Italia.
