Sergio Perez has played down Sauber’s pace after the Mexican set the quickest lap we’ve seen so far in Barcelona over a total of seven days.
Perez set a 1:21.761, a tenth faster than Sebastian Vettel’s quickest lap on day two. Though he has played down the C29’s pace, despite people suggesting he could challenge the front-runners in Australia.
“For sure. People think that now I will go to Melbourne and win, but we have to be realistic. This won’t happen,” he said following the teams penultimate day testing.
“We have to just keep working and developing our car as much as possible for Melbourne and see where we are.”
He admitted there was more to come from himself and the car, though the chassis won’t see any more upgrades between now and the first race in just over a weeks time.
“For sure it always can be better, from my side and from the car,” he said. “I don’t know how much, but for sure it can be better.”
