Bernie Ecclestone has changed his stance on the Bahrain Grand Prix once again, saying it ‘doesn’t look good’ despite just hours earlier claiming he was more hopeful.
The F1 mogul is expected to make a decision on whether or not the race will go ahead on Wednesday. The latest update is looking bleak with further riots in the country.
“It appears things are changing hourly. When I made my earlier statement it was based on information I had at that time, as opposed to what is happening [now],” ESPN quote him as saying.
When asked if he feared the race would be cancelled, he replied: “I don’t fear anything, I just think things have changed and that we should wait and see over the weekend exactly what changes there have been. At this moment it doesn’t look good.”
The British Foreign Office has today issued a no travel warning, urging UK nationals to stay away unless travel is absolutely necessary.
“In light of recent developments, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office [FCO] has changed its travel advice to advise against all but essential travel to the Kingdom of Bahrain.
“We have also advised all UK nationals currently in Bahrain to maintain a high level of security awareness particularly in public places and on major highways; and to avoid large gatherings, crowds and demonstrations.”
