Felipe Massa’s first outing in the F150 came to a fiery end in Valencia after an oil leak caused a fire to breakout in the engine.
The Brazilian had taken over driving duties from team-mate Fernando Alonso on Thursday, but he only managed 12 laps before the issue red flagged the session and ended Ferrari’s testing programme.
A spin at turn five first saw smoke billow from the rear of the car before Massa collected the Ferrari and began to return to the pits. However a second spin and flames caused him to leap out of the car leaving it in a cloud of thick smoke.
The Ferrari was later recovered to the pits which allowed the session to restart with Force India’s Adrian Sutil fastest at lunch.
