‘Radical’ Williams FW33 almost complete – Head

Williams co-founder and Engineering Director Patrick Head is hoping that the new, more radical FW33, will help restore the team to its former competitive glory.

Head explained that much of the development work has been completed, with just final tweaks to be completed before the testing kicks off on February 1st.

“Most of the development work is complete. Now we are designing the outer elements. The chassis, suspension and transmission have already been developed for months now.”

The 65-year-old believes the design is much more radical when compared to last years car, which managed to finish sixth in the championship, just a point ahead of Force India.

“Rubens Barrichello has already said that the car looks radical. I [also] think it is more adventurous than the 2010 vehicle. To qualify further up in the team hierarchy, it must be.

“We, and I think many of our loyal fans too, want to see Williams get involved again in the lead.”

He also confirmed that the team will be using their own battery-powered KERS system developed by Williams Hybrid Power, rather than the flywheel system developed in 2009.

“We will use an all-new KERS system which was developed by us and uses batteries to store energy,” he explained. “This has nothing to do with our flywheel version we have developed for 2009.”
