Bernie Ecclestone’s wish for Max Mosley to return to the helm of the FIA look to be only a pipe-dream, as the former FIA president has ruled out any involvement with motorsport in the future.
Ecclestone, who turned 80-years-old today, told the BBC’s 5 Live that it would be nice to have Mosley back.
“I didn’t want Max to go and it would be nice to have him back.
“I suppose we could go back and Max could be president of the FIA and Jean could be president of FISA, running the sporting side.
“I don’t think the teams would mind. If you asked anyone now if Max coming back as president of the FIA, if they would complain, I think they’d say ‘no’.”
Despite Ecclestone’s wishes, Mosley says his days involved in F1 are over, branding recent rumours of his return as nonsense.
“I think my F1 days are finished and I’ve moved on to other things. One should never go back,” said the 70-year-old.
“It’s completely a rumour [that I’ll return]. I follow it vaguely at a distance. I’m really now just an ordinary fan, I watch it on the television, but it’s no longer my responsibility.
“It’s a nice idea and very friendly to say ‘come back’ but the truth of the matter is it wouldn’t be the right thing to do.”
