The FIA has chosen to penalise Vitaly Petrov for his move at the Japanese Grand Prix which resulted in himself and Nico Hulkenberg retiring on lap one.
The Renault driver veered violently across the track during the start of the race, clipping the front-right of the Williams and spinning himself into the wall.
Under article 16.1 of the sporting regulations, the FIA chose to impose a grid drop of five places at the next event, Korea, for causing an avoidable collision.
Felipe Massa avoided a penalty for a similar accident at turn one as he speared into the side of Vitantonio Liuzzi, also resulting in the retirement of both drivers.
