The recently departed Pedro de la Rosa is still aiming to race next season despite having been ousted from Sauber in Sepetmber.
The F1 veteran has been involved in the sport since 1999 and is best known for his seven years at McLaren as a test driver and most recently at Sauber where he raced alongside Kamui Kobayashi.
In an interview with Formule1.nl, he revealed his future lies in racing, not as a test driver.
“[I hope to] have a place as a driver in F1 next year,” said the Spaniard before admitting another test role isn’t something that interests him, despite his current role with Pirelli.
“One thing is certain, I will not do another season of testing.
“If my career in Formula 1 is finished, I regret it, but it’s not the end of the world.
“Early in your career you settle for any car you can get. Then you are more selective and end of your career you are happy with any offer. To me there is nothing better than racing,” he concluded.
