Ferrari chairman Luca Di Montezemolo believes his teams decision to back Fernando Alonso for the title this season, was the correct decision.
The team actively backed the Spaniard quite early in the season – a move which was confirmed during the German GP. The team-orders saga highlighted the fact Ferrari had chosen to focus on Alonso as their title contender.
“It has proved to be the correct decision to focus on Alonso,” Montezemolo said before praising Alonso’s integration with the team.
“He is extremely strong and very close to the team, and has been able to integrate from the first day despite some concerns.”
The Italian also called for Alonso’s team-mate, Felipe Massa, to fulfil a supportive role to help the Spaniard claim his third title.
“I want a strong Massa in the final four races, to remove points from the opponents,” he added.
“In Singapore he had some bad luck, but he is in good condition to win. Those who race for Ferrari don’t race for themselves, but for the Ferrari team colours.”
