Matthias Mueller, the new chairman of Porsche, says he will evaluate whether to return to Formula One under the Porsche or Audi brand in the near future.
The tie-up between Porsche and Volkswagen means the two car companies come under the same motorsport program.
Mueller is confident that one of the two brands will compete in Le Mans, whilst the other will move into F1, rather than having them compete against one another.
“With LMP1, there are two classes and two brands – Audi and Porsche. We do not like to both go into LMP1; that is not so funny,” Mueller told Autocar.
“So therefore we have to discuss whether it makes better sense for one of the brands to go into LMP1, and the other brand into F1. So we will have a round-table to discuss the pros and cons.”
The German manufacturer could enter a team, but the more likely plan is to become an engine supplier once the new regulations are introduced in 2013.
