The Lotus team and engine supplier Cosworth have agreed to terminate their three-year contract at the end of 2010.
Lotus have been looking to move to Renault engines since mid-2010, however a deal couldn’t be agreed until the current contract with Cosworth had ended.
A statement by Cosworth confirmed the two companies would part ways come the end of the season, allowing Lotus to move to Renault power for 2011.
“Cosworth has reached an agreement in principle with Lotus Racing whereby the team’s Cosworth engine supply agreement will come to a conclusion at the end of the current Formula 1 season,” read the statement.
A series of gearbox failures, including Jarno Trulli’s in Italy last weekend, will also see the team move from their own gearbox, made in Malaysia, to Renault’s gearbox and transmission, providing a massive boost to their reliability for 2011.
