Sauber working hard on gaining 2011 sponsors

Peter Sauber is confident that his Swiss-based outfit will attract some key sponsors for the 2011 season, giving the team a much needed cash injection.

The team were bought out by Sauber after BMW pulled out at the end of 2009. Many were expecting a Brawn GP esque season as the team impressed in pre-season testing, however the opening race proved it was little more then showboating to gain sponsors.

The sponsors didn’t materialise and the car remained almost blank with just a handful of small logo’s – including Burger King for the two Spanish rounds.

Sauber is confident that the team will see some new partners for 2011 with rumours suggesting Carlos Slim, the world’s richest man, will support the team through his Telemex company, in return for a cash injection and the possibility of putting a Mexican in one of the two seats – most likely replacing Pedro de la Rosa.

“There is a good possibility for new partners and we are working very hard on that,” Peter told Autosport.

“We’re sure we will have more colour on the car next year. I don’t know what basic colour – it depends on the sponsor.”

If the Telemex rumours become reality, the car would most likely sport a blue livery, sticking with the teams recent history.
