Bernie Ecclestone has admitted he’d like to see Sebastian Vettel partner Fernando Alonso at Ferrari, calling the dream duo ‘ideal’.
In an interview with Alonso on the official F1 website, Ecclestone said if he were a team principal, those would be the two drivers he’d employ, without a doubt.
“I personally think that Sebastian has the class to win a World Championship, which Fernando has already proven. It is a matter of quality. In my opinion both of them would be an ideal line-up as they would complement each other.”
He then went onto ask Alonso if such a pairing would work from the Spaniards side.
“Am I right Fernando? Sebastian would not have any issues with you. What about yourself?”
To that, Alonso said: “Right, I would not have any problems with Sebastian.”
“This is what I am saying,” replied Ecclestone. “Both of them would treat each other with respect, regardless of being the biggest opponents.”
The 79-year-old was then asked whether he’d stump up the cash, for what would inevitably be a costly couple, to which he said: “Of course I would.”
