The FIA have announced that Pirelli has been awarded an exclusive contract to supply Formula One with tyres for three years, starting in 2011.
The battle to supply F1 had been a closely fought contest between Michelin and Pirelli, with the teams preferring the latter, whilst the FIA wanted to see Michelin return to the sport.
In recent weeks though, Pirelli emerged as the clear frontrunner.
“Pirelli has been selected as the single tyre supplier for the FIA Formula One World Championship for a period of three years, commencing in 2011,” read an FIA statement.
“The sole supplier will undertake to strictly respect the sporting and technical regulations implemented by the FIA.”
With the deal coming so late in the season, a tyre test is likely to take place in Abu Dhabi after the 2010 season has ended.
