McLaren driver, Jenson Button, is promising ‘more to come’ after finishing behind his team-mate for the second race in a row, but despite that he, remains just three points off the lead of the drivers’ championship.
“I’ve had a good season so far, but there’s more to come,” proclaimed Button.
The Brit has taken two victories himself this season, as has Mark Webber and Lewis Hamilton. However Button’s consistency to finish in the top eight in every race but Monaco, as a result of a silly mistake by a mechanic, has left him in a great position to continue fighting, something which before Turkey comes as a surprise.
“If you had told me before Turkey we would be in our position now, it would have been quite hard to believe,” said Button.
“That is because at every race the Red Bulls have been quick, but then it’s been a very mixed season so far, with different people at the front.
“We’re eight races in and there are just three points between us, so it’s looking fantastic,” he added.
Button moved teams after winning the title in ’09, a move which encountered some harsh criticism from fans and F1 figures. ‘He’s entering the lion’s den’ being one of the sentences muttered. Despite that, Button has managed to hold his own against Hamilton.
“To have won the World Championship last year, to have moved teams, and now be racing alongside Lewis and fighting for the Championship again, is a great feeling for me.
“In qualifying he was quick. I couldn’t get near him in Q3. He is quick anyway, but on that circuit he is a specialist, yet for me the race was a bloody great one.
“To finish just behind Lewis after starting from fourth, I was really happy with that.”
