Stefano pushes for spare car return

Ferrari boss, Stefano Domenicali, is still pushing for the re-introduction of spare cars after his driver, Fernando Alonso, was forced to sit out of qualifying at Monaco last weekend.

In Saturday practice, Alonso came into contact with the armco just before Casino Square (turn three) which saw the F10’s chassis damaged beyond repair and the Spaniard side-lined for qualifying.

Domenicali believes that having a spare car for each of the teams would be a positive move for F1 spectators as it means that they wouldn’t have to go “without the possibility of enjoying one of the biggest stars in qualifying.”

“We will discuss it with the other teams to see if we can change it [the rule],” Stefano told Spain’s Diario AS newspaper.  “Nothing has been decided, but I hope it happens soon.”

The spare car ban came into effect a few years ago as a cost-cutting measure and the re-introduction of spare cars has always been a hot topic with the Maranello-based squad.
