The FIA have fined Ferrari/Alonso $20,000 (£13,000) for the unsafe release from his pit-box after he almost collided with Nico Rosberg in the pitlane.
Rosberg slammed on his brakes which meant he narrowly avoided hitting the F10 as Ferrari released Alonso from his garage into the path of the Mercedes.
Alono admitted he simply didn’t see Rosberg at the time.
“First of all I didn’t see Nico, unfortunately,” Alonso said when questioned about the incident. “The angle of vision from the cars is not perfect, to be able to see anyone coming down the pit lane, so you rely on your mechanics.”
The Spaniard, questioned before the FIA issued its penalty, said he isn’t expecting a one after recent decisions from the FIA, regarding pitstop incidents, have been quite lenient.
“If there is a penalty for this, then we need to reconsider some of the grand prix so far, in terms of penalties for incidents in the pit lane, so hopefully there won’t be one.”
