There were mixed reactions to the new Silverstone Arena layout on Saturday as the qualifying race took place for the FIA’s new GT1 series.
Ex-Renault F1 driver Romain Grosjean, who previously competed on the original track in GP2 wasn’t overly pleased with the new layout.
“It’s nothing special,” he told Autosport after the race. “We have lost Bridge and the complex which was very nice and we didn’t gain much with the new part. I’m not 100 per cent convinced.
“With the single-seater cars they are flat-out through Abbey and in Formula 1 it is going to be very fast as well. I don’t think it gives any overtaking opportunities. So that’s a bit a shame.”
The tracks new layout was compromised for MotoGP after Silverstone lost F1 to Donington, despite this, Corvette driver Oliver Gavin gave the circuit a better review.
“I think that it is going to be a fantastic track not only for us, but for Formula 1, for MotoGP, they have really ticked all the boxes.”
The true result for F1 won’t be known until the British grand prix in July.
