Bernie Ecclestone has tipped Michael Schumacher to win a race soon, despite mediocre performances in the last four races, of which sixth place has been his best result.
“Michael would have never returned had he not been convinced that he can do the job,” the BBC quote Ecclestone as saying.
“He’s not a tourist in the paddock, he’s here to win and he will [win] again.”
Schumacher quit the sport in 2006 after racking up a record seven World Championship titles. He then attempted to make a comeback with his former team, Ferrari, in 2009 but failed due to a previous neck injury.
He successfully returned in 2010 alongside Nico Rosberg at Mercedes GP. Many expected the 41-year-old to make a sensational comeback and put Rosberg in the shade, however, that failed to materialise.
Mercedes team principal, Ross Brawn has admitted concern over Schumacher’s lack of pace.
“His pace is a problem. Michael’s problems are difficult to understand. It’s not the difficult corners, but the technically simple ones,” Brawn told Auto Motor und Sport.
“Until now he has been getting closer and closer to Nico, so what happened in China was totally against the trend.”
It’s been reported that his chassis may have a problem and that could be the cause, or at least apart of his pace troubles. Norbert Haug stated it would be replaced for the Spanish GP in the hope that would cure the problem.
