The Australian grand prix Chairman, Ron Walker, has slammed F1 drivers branding them ‘lazy’ in light of their comments toward the light levels at this year’s race.
The start time for the Albert Park race was moved from 4pm to 5pm to satisfy European viewers who usually have to get up at 5am (GMT) to watch the build-up and race coverage live.
Several drivers, including Michael Schumacher complained about the visibility.
“In Australia it was certainly over the limit by the end of the race, it was certainly too dark,” the German said.
The FIA conducted light tests at the circuit, and agreed the levels recorded were below their own safety limits. It’s thought the time will now move back to 4pm to avoid ‘dangerous conditions’.
Mr Walker though, disagrees with the FIA’s tests, and called the drivers ‘prima donnas’ for complaining.
“It’s clearly not dangerous,” he told the Herald Sun. “You can’t please these drivers, they are a bunch of lazy people who won’t do anything to help the sport, except for two or three.
“A lot of drivers are prima donnas. They are never happy,” he added.
