Force India’s Adrian Sutil had a competitive race, managing to finish 5th and hold off a charging Lewis Hamilton in the closing stages of the race.
“The race was exciting and fifth place in the end was a great achievement.”
The German knew he had to push in the last 15 laps as Hamilton was closing in on him at a rate of knots. He managed to keep the Brit behind him until the very end, even Hamilton admitted Sutil’s pace was impressive.
“It was a good overall performance from the team. It was always very close with Lewis [Hamilton] just behind in the closing stages but I knew that if I didn’t make any mistakes I wouldn’t have any problems, so I was just trying to concentrate,” he added.
This is Force India’s third points scoring position in three races. Liuzzi managed to score in the opening two races, but suffered a throttle issue which ended his race early.
“Unfortunately I had a problem with the throttle after about 12 laps. We didn’t understand exactly what it was but overall we lost drive and that was the end of it.”
Team principal, Vijay Mallya was delighted with the result.
“I am absolutely delighted. Adrian had a strong race, keeping a cool head under pressure when a charging Lewis Hamilton was right on his tail. Once again we’ve proved the pace of our car and our ability to really mix it in the midfield.”
