Fernando Alonso has slammed fans who believe that Formula One is there for entertainment purposes and says that the people who “want extra show perhaps need to reconsider if they want to watch Formula One.”
Speaking to the media in Melbourne, the Ferrari driver insists that the show hasn’t changed and reminds those fans that slammed the sport for the boring start to the season in Bahrain, that F1 “is about technique, about how precise everything is in terms of the mechanics [and] the engineering.”
The comments are not expected to go down well with the millions of F1 fans especially seeing as other drivers in the paddock agreed that the race in Bahrain, won by Alonso, was nothing short of a procession to the finish line.
The Spaniard went on to say that F1 has never had much overtaking and that if the sports governing body were to bring in a two pit stop or more rule, as was suggested this week, that nothing would change.
“It’s been the normal thing for the past 15 years,” Alonso said. “If we have to do two stops, more or less it would remain the same.”
